IX. Institutional frame
The Université de Bourgogne developed with the foundation of its Law Faculty in Dijon in the Year 1722. At the beginning of the XIXth Century it extended to other disciplines in arts, sciences, medicine and pharmacy. Today it is one of the largest universities in France with nearly 25.000 students. It is the only university in this region of France, and offers a great variety of courses in various fields and at different levels.

  • It has, moreover, a pronounced international policy: more than 2000 of its students are from abroad, representing 115 different nationalities. Every year about 500 Dijon students go abroad. The Université de Bourgogne was one of the first French Universites to offer French language teaching to foreign students.
  • It has participated in European programmes since the beginning of the Erasmus/Socrates.

X. Research activities
The master works closely with 2 research laboratories, which are recognised and financed by the Ministry for Research:

  • Le LIMSIC, (laboratoire sur l?image, les m?diations et le sensible en information communication)

  • Le CRCMD, (centre de recherche sur la culture, les mus?es et la diffusion des savoirs).

The research areas are:

  • Sensorial communication in the media (taste, flavour, non-verbal communication)

  • The aesthetics of social communication (the media and mediation)

  • The mediation of science and knowledge.

XI. Quality assurance and evaluation
All French Universities are subject to approval by the ?Minist?re de la Jeunesse, de l?Education et de la Recherche? and are required to apply for four-yearly contracts (?plans quadriennaux?). This involves rigorous quality inspection, examination of content, course structures and assessment. The Universit? de Bourgogne, in 2004, applied for the four-year contract, admitting them to the new ?3-5-8?, or ?Licence-Master-Doctorat? Structure, which was formally approved by the Ministry in April, 2004. Within the Masters Course there is ?teaching quality committee? (?Conseil P?dagogique?) made up of academic staff and professionals, reviewing yearly the course, and constantly adapting it to present needs.
